Baseball Drops Two To Arcadia

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University baseball team wrapped up a six-game home stand with a pair of losses to Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom foe Arcadia University on Saturday afternoon.

The Knights (14-8) won the first game, 6-5, and took the second, 18-1, over the Aggies (2-18).

In game one, Arcadia scored five unanswered runs thanks to two hit batters, an error and three hits, but DelVal held them off the board over the next three innings.

The Aggies got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the second with RBI singles from Bobby Bright and Timmy Lallis. They had the bases loaded with two outs, but the Knights got a strikeout to end the rally and keep it a 5-2 game.

Arcadia got one back in the top of the fifth off an RBI double down the left field line by Zachary Sekelick.

Trailing 6-2 in the bottom of the sixth, Ethan Saxe worked a one-out walk and came around to score on an error. Later in the frame, Lallis got aboard with a single, stole second base, and scored on an RBI single by Jonathan Drews to make it a 6-5 game. DelVal still trailed by just one in the bottom of the seventh, but were retired in order as the Knights held on for the 6-5 win.

Lallis was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored while Drews and Jared Sterner also had two hits, and Sterner scored twice. Dakota George pitched a completed game and surrendered just one earned run with two strikeouts. As a team, the Aggies outhit the Knights, 9-7, in the game.

In game two, Arcadia outhit the Aggies, 17-5, and took advantage of a pair of errors as it got out to a 7-0 lead after five innings. Bobby Bright had the lone RBI in the game for DelVal as his sacrifice fly plated Ethan Saxe in the bottom of the fifth.

Joseph Kumar led the Knights with four hits, three RBI, and three runs scored while Emilio Pallante went 2-for-4 with three RBI and four runs scored. Luke Fournier got the win after five innings of work, one earned run allowed, and five strikeouts. Nate Reed suffered the loss for DelVal after 3.1 innings pitched, four earned runs allowed, and one strikeout.
