DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University women's lacrosse team opened the 2021 season at home against Alvernia University but dropped a 15-4 decision to the visitors.
The Golden Wolves (1-0) scored six goals in 3:41 while holding the Aggies (0-1) off the board, and head coach Ramona Walters called timeout.
DelVal responded by coming out of the timeout and finding senior Amanda McKeegan who spun past a defender and buried her first goal of the season to make it 6-1.
Alvernia got the next goal from Gianna Taffo, her second of the game, but McKeegan fired back with her second 3:19 later to keep it a five-point game.
Moments later, first-year Kyra McKeegan notched her first collegiate tally as she cut across the front of the net and took a pass from fellow rookie Ashley Birmingham before depositing in the net to make it 7-3.
Over the final 16:51 of the first half the Golden Wolves went on a 7-0 run to take a 14-3 lead at the break.
With the clock running, the visitors tacked on five more goals in the second before the McKeegan sisters each got one more apiece late in the stanza for the 19-5 final.
Amanda McKeegan's three goals gave her 93 for her career. DelVal had 10 shots on goal while Alvernia got 28 on target.
Erika Whitmoyer scored four goals and had two assists for the Golden Wolves and Taffo finished with five goals
