WILKES-BARRE (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University baseball team got five hits over two games from senior Timmy Lallis en route to a doubleheader split with Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom rival King's College. The Monarchs (4-6) took the opener, 9-1, while the Aggies (2-6) won the nightcap, 6-3.
Lallis led off the twinbill with a double to right field, Bobby Bright moved him to third with a single, and Shawn Eldridge picked up the RBI with a sacrifice fly to center to give the Aggies an early 1-0 lead.
King' took the lead in the bottom of the second by getting the first two runners aboard and moving them to second and third with a sacrifice bunt. Andrew Steidle picked up two RBI with a single to right to make it 2-1.
DelVal got two on with nobody out in the third, but could not bring them home, and in the bottom of the frame, King's scored two more on four hits to take a 4-1 lead. The Aggies were held without a hit the rest of the way as the home team cruised to the 9-1 win in the opener.
Lallis led off game two with his fourth hit of the day and came around to score on a Vinny Colavitti single to open the scoring. Two batters later, Hank Bielen made it 2-0 as he drove in Jonathan Drews.
King's got one back in the first on a sacrifice fly to cut its deficit in half, but in the third inning the Aggies were back to the top of the order and once again cashed in.
Lallis led off the third with a double to right and DelVal eventually got runners to second and third with one out. Drews scored his second run of the game on a wild pitch and Evan Scally drove in another run with an RBI single to make it 4-1.
The Aggies maintained a 6-2 advantage going into the bottom of the eight where the Monarchs making a charge with the bases loaded and two outs. Ryan Georgiadis was called to the mound in relief and got a pop-up to the first basemen to limit the damage to just one run.
King's did it again in the bottom of the ninth, this time loading the bases with nobody out. Nate Reed relieved Georgiadis and got a strikeout and a groundball double play to close the door on a 6-3 DelVal victory.
Lallis finished the day with five hits, a walk, and two runs scored and Scally went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in game two. Colavitti and Dylan Strunk picked up a pair of hits in game two while Zakary Zgura and Drews did the same in the opener. Garrett Zimmerman suffered the loss and Cole Holsinger earned the win as six different pitchers saw the mound for the Aggies over the two games.
