Men's Basketball Locks Down Albright, Secures 66-61 Home Win

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University men's basketball team locked down the visiting Albright College offense and held on down the stretch to secure its first victory of the young season, 66-61, in a non-conference game.

The Aggies (1-3) held the Lions (1-2) to under 30-percent shooting from the field and 2-for-13 (15.4%) from three-point land while forcing 21 turnovers for the game. Comparatively, the Green and Gold went 21-for-49 (42.9%) from the field and 9-for-22 (40.9%) from deep.

DelVal connected on six treys in the first 10 minutes of the game as Matt Paulus hit three and Ryan Black poured in two. The Aggies controlled the pace all half and finished the stanza with a 6-2 run as they went into the break with their largest lead of the game to that point, 39-24.

DelVal opened the second half with a 14-6 run over the first 6:28 to pull away to a 23-point advantage, 53-30.

Albright chipped away with 22-6 run to pull within seven, 59-52, with under three minutes left in regulation. It cut the lead to five on two occasions including with 14 seconds remaining and Sean Miller at the line for the Lions. After Miller made 1-of-2, Albright pulled down the offensive rebound but Paulus was there to steal the ball under the basket. He was fouled by the Lions and hit both his free throws down the other end to secure the victory for the home team.

Paulus led all scorers in the game with 21 points on 4-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc and 9-of-11 from the charity stripe. He added four steals. Pernell Ghee followed with 17 points to go with seven rebounds and a blocked shot. Black chipped in 15 points with three treys and Thomas Ibidapo grabbed a team-best eight rebounds with three assists and two blocked shots.

Albright was led by Samuel Majekodunmi's 13 points and a double-double from Jordan Guerrero with 13 rebounds and 12 points to go with three steals and a blocked shot.

These two squads will be right back at it tomorrow night at Albright with a 7 p.m. tip
