DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – Senior Gillian Nardelli scored her third goal of the season, but the Delaware Valley University dropped a 6-1 decision to Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom rival DeSales University on Friday night.
The Bulldogs (5-7, 1-2 MAC Freedom) held a 1-0 lead after the first quarter as Maddie Trocki banged home a rebound in tight with five minutes left in the stanza. Trocki added two more tallies early in the second to extend DeSales lead to 3-0. Her third was a blast from near the top of the circle.
Just 30 seconds after the Bulldogs made it a three-goal game, Nardelli got behind the defense and TJ Smith sent a shot toward goal where Nardelli was waiting and blasted it into the cage to make it 3-1.
DeSales responded less than two minutes later when Caroline McGrath tipped home a shot from Trocki to regain the three-goal lead going into and make it 4-1 at the half.
In the third quarter, Trocki picked up her fourth goal of the game and it remained a 5-1 lead into the fourth.
The Aggies had a golden chance late in regulation with a corner opportunity as they executed the play but failed to get the shot toward cage. The Bulldogs added one more late in the game for the 6-1 win.
