Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Key Chances Thwarted As DelVal Field Hockey Falls To Keystone At Home

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – Visiting Keystone College scored early and often while the Delaware Valley University field hockey team generated chances, but came up empty and the visitors cruised to a 7-0 non-conference victory.

The Giants (9-4) needed just 26 seconds to get on the board as Julia Blahut got to the end line and sent a pass to the front of the net where Maria Tomada banged home her first of the day for the 1-0 lead. It remained a one-goal game into the second quarter.

The Aggies (1-12) outshot the visitors, 8-5, in the second and corner opportunities were even at five apiece.

Keystone doubled its lead 3:36 into the stanza with Victoria Mainero's first of the game. DelVal nearly cut the deficit in half as TJ Smith poked a shot passed the keeper and it rolled toward the open cage, but a last ditch effort kept the ball out and the Aggies off the board. The Giants tacked on one more with eight minutes left in the half to take a 3-0 lead into the break.

Keystone added two more in the third and two more in the fourth for the 7-0 final.

DelVal had 13 shots in the game to Keystone's 16 and had nine corner chances to the Giant's 15. Alyssa Rudd played well in cage for the Aggies with nine saves, and two players split time evenly at the other end and combined for nine saves for the visitors.

Mainero finished with two goals and two assists and Tomada added two goals of her own as six different players reached the score sheet for Keystone.

DelVal will return to conference play on Friday with a 7 p.m. game at King's College.
