PHOENIXVILLE (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University women's volleyball team got back into the win column with a convincing three-set victory over non-conference foes from the University of Valley Forge. The Aggies won with scores of 25-13, 25-9, and 25-11.
DelVal (3-13) got the first lead early in the opening set until the Patriots (1-15) went on a 3-0 run to take their first lead, 9-8. The Aggies responded with a 10-4 spurt behind seven kills to regain the lead, 18-13. Valley Forge got one back before DelVal closed the door with seven unanswered points, including five straight aces, to take the first set, 25-13.
The Aggies never trailed the rest of the night.
They raced out to a 10-1 lead in the second set and never looked back on their way to the 25-9 win. DelVal had nine kills and three errors in the second while the home team had just three kills and recorded nine errors.
Grace Kane opened the serving in the third and helped the Aggies out to a 4-0 lead. The Patriots clawed back to within one at 6-5, but DelVal countered with a 10-1 run to pull away with the third set. The Aggies recorded just one error in the third and had seven kills. Valley Forge was forced into 11 errors and held to three kills.
Olivia Deffendall led DelVal with seven kills and five aces while Kane and Tucker had six kills apiece. Nemil dished out 23 assists and Gretta Schneider led the way with 12 digs.
The Aggies will look to make it two in a row on with a quick turnaround as they travel to Penn State Berks tomorrow night for a 7 p.m. start.
