CENTER VALLEY (Pa.) -- The Delaware Valley University men's soccer team surrendered a penalty kick early in regulation and that proved to be the difference as host DeSales University defended home turf in a 1-0 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom victory over the Aggies on Tuesday night.
The Bulldogs (7-7-1, 2-2-1 MAC Freedom) were awarded the penalty kick after 11:55 of regulation as forward Dimeji Oyinkolade got behind the DelVal (4-10, 0-6) defense and was taken to the ground. The referee deemed the violation enough to warrant a whistle and Oyinkolade placed his shot low to the left side of the net for what proved to be the game-winning tally.
The Aggies best chance in the first half was a corner kick opportunity in the 39th minute that was thwarted away. DelVal had six more chances off of corner plays in the second half including four in the last 10 minutes, but could not capitalize. One of the attempts on goal by
Dan Arone toward the bottom left of the net was turned away by keeper Nathan Hatzfeld.
Arone's two shots and one on target led the Aggies while keeper
Andrew Roberto made his first start since October 2 and made three saves with just the one goal against. DelVal has one road contest remaining in the regular season, at Wilkes on October 27 at 7 p.m.
