DOYLESTOWN (Pa.)--- The Delaware Valley University women's soccer team (6-6, 0-5) got out to a 1-0 first half lead, but King's College (3-6-1, 1-2-1) netted the final two goals to defeat the Aggies 2-1 in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) freedom contest.
After a slow start for both teams, DelVal got on the board in the 31st minute. After a King's foul gave the Aggies a free kick, first-year Sydney Dispoto sent a shot in from a difficult angle near the right corner. It sailed over the Monarch's defense and found the back of the net to give Dispoto her third goal of the season and to put the Aggies in front 1-0.
King's didn't waste a lot of time to find the equalizer, as just over eight minutes later senior Alyssa Macher scored her first career goal to send it to halftime tied 1-1.
Just under 15 minutes into the second half, the Monarchs were able to break through and take the lead, as first-year Leah Sankey battled off a defender and placed a shot perfectly in the upper-right corner to put King's in front 2-1.
With just under six minutes to go, DelVal was awarded a free kick. First-year Jess Williamson gained possession in the box, but her shot attempt sailed high and wide as the Aggies couldn't capitalize on their final scoring chance of the game.
Junior Olivia Sherwood made seven saves in goal for the Aggies, who will return to MAC Freedom play Wednesday at DeSales.
