DOYLESTOWN (Pa.)--- The Delaware Valley University men's soccer team (4-9, 0-5) surrendered three second half goals, as the visiting King's College Monarchs (6-4-1, 3-1) defeated the Aggies 3-0 in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom contest.
King's got the first good look of the game in the 38th minute as first-year Shane Serio went one on one with Aggie keeper Quinn McCarty, but McCarty made a great save from point blank range to keep it scoreless. In the 45th minute, the Monarchs again had a golden opportunity to strike first. After a failed clear by DelVal, senior Alex Showalter put a shot on net, but McCarty laid out to make another great save to keep the game scoreless heading into halftime.
With the score still tied 0-0 early in the second half, the Aggies had a chance to knock home the game's first goal. In the 54th minute, the Aggies had a throw in and sophomore Danny Henson placed one deep into the box. First-year Pierce Marks got his foot on it, but it grazed off the post and Monarch keeper Cole Catherman was able to secure it.
Two minutes later, the Monarchs broke through, as Kyle Shalvey played give-and-go with Evan Egnatovich and Shalvey placed a perfect shot in the bottom left corner from 30 yards out to give King's a 1-0 lead.
DelVal quickly looked to tie it up, as just a minute later sophomore Chase Strohecker deflected one toward the goal off a corner, but the last line of King's defense was able to clear it away as Catherman was well out of net.
Alex Showalter would give King's some cushion, as he netted a goal in the 71st and 77th minute, his first two goals of the season, to extend the lead to 3-0.
Delaware Valley travels to DeSales on Tuesday for their next MAC Freedom game.
