Men’s Soccer Surrenders Second Half Goal In 1-0 Defeat At FDU-Florham

MADISON (NJ)--- The Delaware Valley University men's soccer team traveled to FDU-Florham in search of their first Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom win, but come up just short as the host Devils (7-5-2, 1-2-1) came away with a 1-0 victory over the Aggies (4-8, 0-4).

The Devils put together the first scoring opportunities of the game, firing off the first four shots in the first 16 minutes. First-year goalkeeper Quinn McCarty kept the game scoreless in the 16th minute, as he extended to his right to make a diving save on a shot by Steve Zawojski.

The Aggies generated a great chance in the 17th minute, as Danny Henson gained possession after a failed clear attempt by FDU-Florham. The Sophomore fired a shot from just outside of the box, but it sailed just high and wide. McCarty made two more saves over the next four minutes to keep the game scoreless heading into halftime.

The second half started off quietly, with only three total shots recorded in the first 13 minutes, all off target.

The Devils finally broke through in the 59th minute. After the Aggies failed to clear the ball out of their half of the field, senior Christian Vriones gained possession, dribbled into open space and buried a left footed shot in the bottom right corner to give FDU-Florham a 1-0 lead.

With just under a minute to play, the Aggies were awarded a free kick. Sophomore Bennett Nordhoff launched a shot on net from 60 yards away, but senior Tiernan Grey snagged it out of the air amongst a number of players to seal the victory for the Devils.
