MADISON (NJ)—The Delaware Valley University women's volleyball team traveled to FDU-Florham for a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom contest, but fell 3-1 to the hosts. The Devils (11-9, 2-4) won the first two sets by scores of 25-18 and 25-15. The Aggies (2-11, 0-6) took the third set 25-23 before dropping the fourth, 25-15.
After falling behind 17-11 in set one, Delaware Valley rattled off three straight points to close to gap to 17-14. It was as close as they would get however, as FDU-Florham finished the set on a 8-4 run to take the first set. The Devils managed 14 kills with seven errors, while DelVal had eight kills and six errors in the set.
The Aggies put together a nice start to set number two, holding an early one point lead, but the Devils, who had 11 kills and just three errors, quickly went on a 7-0 run to take the lead for the remainder of the set. DelVal finished with seven kills and seven errors in the set.
The Aggies put together their best performance of the night in the third set. After falling behind early, DelVal rattled off five straight points to take an early 5-2 lead. The lead grew to as large as six on two different occasions, but the Devils put together a 5-0 run of their own to close the gap to 19-18. With the Aggies holding a 24-23 lead, Grace Kane delivered one of her five kills to win the set. DelVal had 12 kills and five errors in the victorious set.
The Devils controlled the fourth set from the beginning, as they got out to a 9-3 cushion and led the remainder of the way. They saved their best for last, as they racked up 15 kills in the final set while committing just two errors.
Sophomore Olivia Defffendall finished with a team-high nine kills for DelVal to go along with 18 digs and a service ace. First-year Gretta Schneider recorded a team high 25 digs and added three assists. First-year Emma Helverson finished second on the team with eight kills while adding 14 digs and two service aces. Caitlin Nemil recorded 29 of the Aggies' 34 assists, good for a match-high.
