Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lax Ousted At Home By Chatham

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University women's lacrosse team took an early lead, but could not hold on as visiting Chatham University Cougars pounced on the opportunity and ran away with a 14-2 victory.

Despite playing a man-down for the entirety of the game, the Aggies (1-3) looked sharp in the opening minutes of the contest. Gabby Borst opened the scoring less than four minutes in as she blew past a Chatham defender before burying a shot into the top right corner for a 1-0 lead. Less than a minute later, the Cougars knotted the game at one apiece on a goal by Kerry Carr. Chatham scored again in the 13th minute for its first lead of the game, but after a lengthy Aggies possession Natalie VanOrden split between two defenders and then rocketed a shot just under the pipe to tie the game at 2-2.

Playing shorthanded caught up to DelVal in the dying minutes of the first half as the team surrendered six goals and was out-shot, 11-1, in the final nine minutes as the visitors built and 8-2 lead headed into the break.

The Cougars ran away with the game in the second as they scored six additional goals for the 14-2 victory.

Sophomore Lynne Asplundh led the way defensively for the Aggies with three ground balls. Despite the score. Liv Valentine had another strong performance, with 10 saves in her first full sixty minute game as an Aggie.

Selena Justus led Chatham offensively with four goals and two assists for six points. Carr followed with three goals and an assist for four points along with a game-high six ground balls.

DelVal will play again this upcoming Tuesday, March 10, at 4 p.m. at Ferrum College in its first of a five-game road trip.
