Aggies Toppled In Home Opener By Reigning NJAC Champion Stockton

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University men's lacrosse team hosted Stockton University under the lights for its 2020 home opener, but a 7-0 run by the visitors spoiled the evening as the Aggies fell, 14-9.

DelVal is now 3-3 all-time in home openers and dropped to 0-2 in the early going of this season. The Ospreys finished last season 18-3 overall, 6-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, and qualified for the NCAA Tournament where they beat Morrisville State, 20-9, before losing to #4 York, 18-11.

Khalil Lindsey opened the scoring for the Aggies less than 2:30 into regulation with his first of the night and second of the year. Less than a minute later, Stockton tied the game, but Lindsey quickly got it back with another unassisted tally to regain the lead.

The Ospreys scored three of the next four, including two goals separated by less than 20 seconds to start the second quarter, to take their first lead of the game, 4-3.

Moments later, with a man-up opportunity, PJ Rafferty set up Lindsey for his third goal of the half and a tie game.

Over the next 28 minutes of game-time the Ospreys went on a 7-0 run to take the largest lead of the game, 11-4, with 5:16 left in the third quarter. Eric Anderson led the stretch with two goals and two assists and Luc Swendlund netted a pair.

DelVal haulted the run with its second man-up goal of the night with 2:02 left in the third. Ben Napieralski setup Brett Ziegler and the freshman ripped home his second of the season to make it 11-5. The Ospreys got the goal right back with under a minute left and took a seven-point lead into the fourth.

The Aggies got two back early in the fourth to cut the deficit to five with 12:27 left, but the rest of the way they traded goals with the Ospreys who held on to win by a final of 14-9.

Nic Brown played all 60 minutes in goal and made 19 saves with seven ground balls and two caused turnovers. Lindsey finished with four goals and Rafferty had three helpers and a tally for four points. Napieralski and Matt Waibel each had one goal and setup another for two points while Brasch and Ziegler rounded out the scoring with their second goals of the season. Defensively, Sean Mylod had four ground balls, one caused turnover, and an assist.

Justin Ruiz made 11 saves in goal for the win and Anderson led all players with three goals and four assists for seven points to go with a caused turnover and a ground ball. Eric Ellis finished with three goals and an assist for four points and Swedlund, a returning All-American and 100-goal scorer, finished with three tallies, as did Donte Poli.

DelVal will be right back at it on home turf with its second of three-straight home games as they welcome Moravian on Saturday, February 22 at 1 p.m.
