Aggies Downed By Stevens As Visitors Surge In Second Half

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – Visiting Stevens Institute of Technology used a big second half to pull away with a 77-54 triumph over the Delaware Valley University men's basketball team in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom tilt on Saturday afternoon.

The Aggies (5-13, 1-7) jumped out to an early two-point lead on the back of Jordan Tucker who notched five points in the first two and half minutes of play. However, the Ducks (15-4, 6-2) responded with a 12-0 run over the next five minutes to jump out to a 15-5 lead.

Terence Johnson and Dariel Medina got the Aggies back on the board with back-to-back treys, and Mike Cianciulli was fouled as he attempted to make it three consecutive from beyond the arc. He connected on all three freebies to make it a 15-14 game with 11:58 left in the stanza.

Stevens answered with a 14- 6 run to open up a nine-point lead, 29-20, with five minutes left before the break. The Aggies outscored the Ducks nine to five the rest of the first half and Damian Washington deposited a late trey to make it a 34-29 game at the break.

Stevens opened the second half by making two from the line but a Tucker layup followed by two free throws by Washington brought DelVal back within three, 36-33.

The Ducks took flight, with 10 points over the next two and a half minutes to extend its advantage to 46-33.

Moments later, Washington connected on another 3-pointer followed by a mid-range jumper to get it back to an eight point game, 46-38, with 14:18 left in regulation.

A 16-8 run by the visitors ballooned the lead to 62-46 with 8:30 on the clock, and Stevens maintained a double-digit advantage the rest of the way to hold on for the 77-54 victory.

DelVal shot 16-for-54 (29.6%) from the field and 6-for-22 from 3-point land while the Ducks were 26-for-61 (42.6%) from the field and 8-for-23 (34.8%) from beyond the arc. Rebounds were 44-33 in favor of the visitors.

Tucker led the Aggies with 17 points to go with five boards while Medina and Washington each pitched in 12. Washington is now just nine points away from the 1,000 career point plateau. Thomas Ibidapo came off the bench and grabbed a team-best eight rebounds with three blocks in 21 minutes.

Spencer Cook led all scorers with 23 points and Alec DiPietrantonio recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Michael Zignorski came off the bench for 12 points and three boards.

DelVal will wrap up its three-game homestand on Wednesday as it takes on Misericordia at 6 p.m.
