READING (PA) – The Delaware Valley University field hockey team took to the road for the first time this season, but was upended by host Albright College, 4-1.
The Aggies (1-1) got the game's first goal just five minutes in as
Gillian Nardelli streaked down the right side of the field and put a shot on cage from 10 yards out. The ball deflected off a Lion defender and past the keeper to make it 1-0.
Albright (1-2) responded just 3:35 later to tie the game at one apiece. Jennifer Crumling got her second of the year as she redirected a shot by Samantha McDonald. The Lions peppered DelVal with 12 shots in the first half, seven of which were on cage, but the game remained tied going into the third quarter.
Play slowed down in the third, but Albright did earn five corner opportunities and made the most out of one. Sydney Baxter slid a pass over to Bailey Lehman who blasted one from the left side, through traffic, and into the cage for what proved to be the game-winning goal.
DelVal surrendered 12 shots on goal in the game and 14 corner opportunities, and senior goal keeper
Rosie Bishop did all she could with 10 saves in the contest.
The Aggies will aim to get back to their winning ways on Saturday when they host Marywood University at 1 p.m.
