Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Maley, McAnee, And Miller Lead The Way To Second OT Win In A Row

DOYELSTOWN (Pa.) – Senior Sean Maley netted the decisive goal in overtime for the Delaware Valley University men's soccer team's second overtime victory in a row over visiting Clarks Summit University. Maley's game winner came in the 100th minute of the first overtime, after an incredible save by the freshman keeper.

It was the first consecutive wins for the Aggies (2-1) since 2017. The Defenders fell to 0-1 on the season.

Freshman Matt Miller opened the scoring with his first career goal at the 21 minute mark on a long through ball from fellow freshman Dan Arone. Clarks Summit managed to knot the game at one apiece on a goal by Ethan Reed with under a minute remaining in the first half.

Less than a minute into the second half, Andre Permyashkin fired a shot off the crossbar and back towards Miller. Miller capitalized on the bounce as he leaped over an opposing player and managed to get his head on the ball for his second of the day, making it 2-1 DelVal. However, the Defenders were able to respond on a goal by Samuel Dodd in the 64th minute.

DelVal was outshot six to four in the second half, but neither team was able to settle the score through regulation and the contest headed to overtime for the second consecutive game.

Midway through the first overtime, Clarks Summit's midfielder Jan Rodriguez was fouled inside the box and awarded a penalty kick. Rodriguez fired a rocket of a shot towards the bottom right corner but freshman goalkeeper Shay McAnee, making his first collegiate start, anticipated the shot perfectly and managed to get a hand on the ball. The ensuing rebound was fired over the net and out of harm's way.

Late into the first overtime, and deep in the Defenders zone, Teddy Davis threw a ball into the box. With everyone pressing it was defenseman Sean Maley who managed to get his right foot on the ball for his first career tally and a 3-2 victory.

Corner opportunities were 7-2 in favor of the visitors and both teams attempted 13 shots. McAnee went the distance in goal and made four saves, including the overtime penalty shot, in his first career start.

The Aggies will look to keep the momentum going as they continue their home-stand on Saturday, September 7, against Wilson College at 4 p.m.
