DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Misericordia University scored two goals in each of the first two quarters en route to a 5-0 win over host Delaware Valley University in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom fied hockey opener for both teams.
The Cougars improved to 5-5 overall while the Aggies fell to 3-5.
DelVal had several chances early in the game but could not find its way onto the scoreboard.
Misericordia got two goals from Anna Effinger separated by exactly eight minutes to take the lead in the first quarter.
Kayla Pogash and Rebecca Kaschak added to the Cougar's lead in the second with goals just four minute apart. The Aggies played well up-front as they had three of the four corner opportunities in the first half and each team finished the half with five shots, and four on goal.
Mikayla Cavenas rounded out the scoring for the Cougars in the third, for the 5-0 final.
Misericordia controlled the majority play in the second half as they held a 14-4 advantage in shots, including a 10-1 edge in the third. The Cougars also had eight of the final 12 corner opportunities.
Rosie Bishop, who replaced
Kita Konerth after Misericordia's fourth tally, stopped three of the four shots on goal. Sophomore
TJ Smith lead the team with three shots, one on goal.
The Aggies will travel to Arcadia University for a MAC Freedom game on Tuesday, October 1
st.
