MAHWAH (Nj.) -- The Delaware Valley University field hockey team traveled across the border to take on Ramapo College in a non-conference match, but allowed two first-half goals that lifted the home team to a 2-0 victory.
The Aggies (3-4) surrendered the first goal of the game less than 10 minutes in as Mariah Tover hooked up with Lucy MacKenzie to put the Roadrunners (4-5) on top early.
Ramapo had seven shots in the first quarter and another four in the second. It found the back of the cage again at the midway point of the second when Kelli Ratkoski took a pass from Katie Yarussi and beat the DelVal keeper to make it 2-0 going into the second half.
The Aggies got two consecutive shots on cage from
Gillian Nardelli and
Samantha Collyer in the third quarter, but could not capitalize.
Sadie Strober made a defensive save late in the fourth and keeper
Kita Konerth stopped four shots to keep the team in the game, but the offensive could not cash in as the Roadrunners held on for the 2-0 shutout.
DelVal will begin Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play on Saturday against Misericordia University at 12 p.m. on Robert A. Lipinski Field in Doylestown.
