DALLAS (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University volleyball team opened its 2019 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom schedule with a 3-0 setback at Misericorida University. Set scores were 25-15, 25-20, and 25-14.
The Aggies fell to 2-7 overall while the Cougars, who finished third in last season's MAC Freedom standings, improved to 12-3.
DelVal only committed 13 errors through the three sets, but only managed 20 kills offensively. Misericordia recorded 39 kills with nine errors in the match. Defensively, the Aggies had 44 kills to the Cougars 40 and each team recorded two blocks.
Caitlin Nemill led the squad with 15 assists, 12 digs, and was one of three players with a service ace.
Krista Hiller led the Aggies with nine kills and
Reilly Green followed with five to go with a team-best two blocks.
DelVal was within striking distance late in the first set with the score 19-15 before the Cougars ripped off six straight points to win the set. The Aggies opened the second with a 5-2 lead, but Misericordia rebounded with nine of the next 11 points to take an 11-7 lead. DelVal kept it tight right up until the end of the second set. The Cougars went up 17-7 in the third and rolled to the match victory.
DelVal has three more road trips coming up beginning with another MAC Freedom match at DeSales next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
