Aggies Field Hockey Drops Double Overtime Heartbreaker At Immaculata

IMMACULATA (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University field hockey team outshot and seemingly outplayed host Immaculata University, but came up on the short end of the 2-1 double overtime final.

It is the first time the Aggies (2-3) have lost to the Mighty Macs (3-4) in the last seven meetings between the two squads.

DelVal outshot Immaculata 6-2 in the first half and held a 3-1 edge in corner opportunities. The Aggies even got on the board first as sophomore T.J. Smith, fresh off her three-goal performance last Friday, scored her team-leading fourth of the season in the early moments of the second half.

DelVal had five shots in the third quarter and all of them were on cage, but the Mighty Macs' keeper was equal to the task after allowing the first goal to Smith.

Immaculata evened the score just eight minute after the Aggies took the lead in the third. Colleen Bradley picked up the equalizer off a pass from Maddy Edwards.

Neither team had a shot on goal in the fourth and the game went into overtime tied 1-1.  The offenses were firing in the first overtime period, but the keepers stood tall in cage as each made four saves on four shots on goal.

In the second overtime, DelVal had the first shot on goal before the Mighty Macs raced down the other way for the game-winner. Bradley fed a pass to Macy Greene in front of the cage, and Greene beat the diving keeper to with the game for the home team, 2-1.

The Aggies had a season-high 17 shots and 14 shots on goal to go with 10 corner opportunities while holding Immaculata to 11 shots, eight on goal, and eight corners.

Smith led DelVal with seven shots on goal while Samantha Collyer and Gillian Nardelli followed with three. Kita Konerth played all 73:18 between the pipes and stopped five shots. Adrianna Ruggieri pitched in a defensive save.

Randie Kuhar was big in cage for the Mighty Macs as she made 13 saves in the double overtime win.
