Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Daniels Carries Aggies To Thrilling Double-OT Victory Over Griffins

DOYELSTOWN (Pa.) – Senior Austin Daniels led the Delaware Valley University men's soccer team to a thrilling double-overtime home triumph on Gwynedd Mercy University with a pair of goals including the game-winner in the 103rd minute.

It was the first win of the 2019 season for the Aggies (1-1) and dropped the Griffins to 0-2.

After a scoreless first half that was evenly played, Daniels broke the seal with an absolute seed from 30 yards out that snuck inside the left post, out of the reach of the diving keeper, to make it 1-0, DelVal.

Less than three minutes later, Gwynedd Mercy answered as Hugh Lynch's diving header at the far post found the back of the net off a corner opportunity. Mike Bernstein took the corner and was credited with the assist.

While the Griffins held an 11-4 advantage in shots in the second half, only three were on target compared to four shots on goal for the Aggies.

Neither team could settle the score through regulation nor the first extra ten minute session and the contest headed to its second overtime, setting the stage for the dramatics.

DelVal worked the ball into Gwynedd's end and Daniels collected an errant clear attempt at the corner of the 18-yard box. He niftily maneuvered by two Griffin defenders and chipped a ball over the on-charging keeper and into the far corner of the net to send the Aggie sideline into a frenzy with a 2-1 victory.

Corner opportunities were 9-2 in favor of the visitors and they held a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal. DelVal keeper Josh Jarrett went the distance in goal and made five saves. In a physical game, there were two yellow cards handed out to each team.

The Aggies will look to keep the momentum going as they continue their home-stand with on Tuesday, September 3 against Clarks Summit University at 4 p.m.
