CHESTER (PA) – The Delaware Valley University women's soccer team kicked off the 2019 campaign in Chester, Pa., but fell to host Widener University, 4-1.
The Pride scored twice in the first seven minutes of the game, the first coming from Lexi Slusher followed by one from Alex Poland. They added one more early in the second on a penalty kick to make it 3-0.
The Aggies responded nicely just over five minutes after the penalty. Freshman
Alysa Ross collected a ball from nearly 30 yards out and ripped it to the upper-90 for her first collegiate tally and to make it 3-1.
Widener got its lead back up to three with a goal from Emma Hudson in the 70
th minute and it held on down the stretch to secure the 4-1 victory in the season opener.
Ross led the Aggies with three shots in the game and keeper
Haley Young made seven saves in 90 minutes played. Four different players scored for the pride and Hudson picked up to helpers. Keeper Ashton Houbary made one save and allowed one goal .
DelVal will continue its four-game road stand when they travel to take on the Neumann University Knights at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
