Men's Soccer Falls Short In Season Opener, 2-1

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2019 season as Yeshiva University scored in the 58th minute and held on the rest of the way to earn a 2-1 road victory.

Sophomore Teddy Davis notched the team's first goal of the season and first career goal as an Aggie in the 36th minute. Freshman Matt Miller picked up his first career point with the primary assist. Miller headed a failed clear attempt across the box and Davis was there to gather and put it home from eight yards out.

Two seconds before the halftime whistle, the Maccabees tied the game on Jess Rom's first tally of the season. Rom broke free of the Aggies defense just inside the box and snuck a low shot by goalkeeper Josh Jarret to make it a 1-1 game at the break.

The two teams played an even second and had several high-quality chances, but it was Yeshiva that eventually broke through in the 58th minute. Zachary Stauber capitalized on a miscommunication by the Aggies for his first of the season, assisted by Ethan Fettaya.

DelVal finished the game with four shots on goal to the Maccabees nine. Davis and starter Andre Permyashkin tied for the team-lead with two shots a piece. Jarret finished the game with seven saves on nine shots on goal, including a flurry of three high-chance opportunities midway through the second frame while the game was still tied at one apiece.

For Yeshiva, Sagi Badash made four saves to earn the victory and forward Zachary Stauber led the team with three shots on goal.

The Aggies will continue their four-game home stand when they host Gwynedd Mercy University on Sunday, September 1 at 4 p.m.
