Women's Lax Honors Seniors, Drops Home Conference Game To DeSales

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University women's lacrosse team celebrated its five seniors before its final home Saturday game of the season, but it was visiting DeSales University that outdueled the Aggies to earn an, 18-12, Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom victory.

DelVal dropped to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in league play while the Bulldogs improved to 6-5 and 1-1.

Before the game, the Aggies honored their five seniors, Amanda Dietrich, Courtney Knight, Aimee MacFarland, Amanda Wood, and Erin McCarthy. During the game, Dietrich, a four-year starter at goalie, added to her storied career between the pipes by recording her 500th career save.

DeSales cracked the scoreboard three times in the first 2:32 with goals by three different players to get out to a 3-0 lead. DelVal responded with three of the next four goals in the game to knot the score at 4-4 less than halfway through the first stanza.

The Bulldogs concluded the half on a 5-2 run, including a man-up goal in the waning seconds, to take a 9-6 advantage at the break. Shots on goal were 18-15 in favor of DeSales through the first 30 minutes, and Claire Gamache led the Aggies with three goals while Samantha Collyer added a goal and an assist.

DeSales got two tallies from Julia Astram to start the second half and make it 11-6. Sabrina Butler got one back for DelVal, but the Bulldogs scored four of the next five to maintain their lead, 15-8, with 14:55 left in regulation.

The Aggies got back to within five with a pair of unassisted tallies by Gamache, and after DeSales scored another, Gamache and Butler each beat the keeper to make it 16-12 with 5:29 on the clock.

The Bulldogs scored twice in the final four and a half minutes of play to secure the 18-12 league victory.
Gamache led all players in the game with six goals and grabbed seven ground balls with five caused turnovers and five draw controls. Butler finished with two goals and one assist for three points and

Samantha Collyer added three caused turnovers, four ground balls, and four draw controls to her two points in the first half. Amanda McKeegan scored twice and Natalie VanOrden notched one tally. Dietrich finished with 13 saves.

Astram led DeSales with five points on four goals and one assist while Eilis McCal (4 G), Alyssa Mantzouranis (3G, 1A), and Azlin Myers (2G, 2A) all had four points. Keeper Rachel Schuebrooks made seven saves in the win.

DelVal will continue MAC Freedom play with a home game against King's College on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
