DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University women's lacrosse team got the first goal of the game, but could not regain the lead the rest of the way as King's College used a 4-0 run that spanned 11:10 of the second half to clinch the 15-10 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom victory.
The Aggies fell to 3-6 overall and 0-3 in league play while the Monarchs improved to 5-9 and 2-1.
Natalie VanOrden got the scoring started with her fifth goal of the season off a feed from
Claire Gamache just 4:32 into regulation.
The two teams traded goals over the next five minutes of play before Emma Lehman potted a pair for King's to give it a 4-2 lead it would not relinquish.
After exchanging goals again, DelVal earned a man-up opportunity and
Amanda McKeegan cashed in thanks to an assist from VanOrden to make pull the Aggies within one, 5-4.
The Monarchs scored the next four goals before Gamache tallied her second of the game just before intermission and VanOrden picked up her third point of the stanza with another assist. DelVal trailed after one, 9-5.
The Aggies opened the second stanza with their second man-up goal of the game as
Samantha Collyer got her first of the day and Gamache earned the assist. Just 36 seconds later, VanOrden earned her third assist of the game when she setup
Jaden Keefer to pull DelVal within two, 9-7, early in the second.
King's regained its three-goal advantage less than a minute later, but the Aggies scored three of the next four goals in a span of 4:45 to cut its deficit to one, 11-10, with 12:14 still on the clock. Gamache, Collyer, and
Jaden Keefer all got unassisted tallies in the spurt.
The Aggies were held off the board until the waning seconds of regulation, and the Monarchs scored four unanswered tallies to close the game and take the 15-11 road victory.
Shots on goal were, 31-28, in favor of King's, but DelVal won the draw controls, 15-13, and grabbed 26 groundballs to the Monarchs 23.
The Aggies were led by Gamache and her three goals, two assists, five points, six ground balls, and nine draw controls. VanOrden finished with a career high one goal and three assists for four points, and Collyer netted four goals. Keefer finished with two goals and McKeegan rounded out the scoring with one.
Amanda Dietrich made 16 saves in the loss.
For King's, Jen O'Connor recorded a game-high seven points with six goals and one helper to go with five draw controls, four ground balls, and two caused turnovers. Mary Kate Klodarska followed with three goals and two assists for five points and Emily Sims finished with two goals, five ground balls, three draw controls, and two caused turnovers.
The Aggies will travel to take on Wilkes University in conference play on Saturday at 1 p.m.
