DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University men's lacrosse team battled at undefeated DeSales University, but dropped the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom bout, 18-11, on Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs remained perfect at 11-0 overall and 2-0 in conference games while the Aggies fell to 5-6 and 0-2.
DeSales scored six of the first seven goals in the game with Joe Neggia getting three to give the Bulldogs a 6-1 lead late in the first quarter. In the final minute of the first,
Dylan Brasch made it a 6-2 game with his 12
th of the season off an assist from
Matt Waibel.
Brasch got another goal, this time off an assist from
Brandon Keller, to start the second stanza and make it 6-3. The Aggies outscored the Bulldogs, 3-2, in the stanza to go into the half trailing by three, 8-5.
DelVal used a 3-2 run at the start of the third quarter to pull within two, 10-8, with 9:45 left in the third as freshman
Sean Mylod scored his second of the season from his long pole position.
DeSales scored twice in 47 seconds to get its lead back to four points, but Keller got one back for the Aggies to make it 12-9 with 3:44 remaining in the stanza. From there, the Bulldogs used a 6-2 run to finish the game and secure the 18-11 final.
The Aggies held a 26-25 advantage in shots on goal and Keller paced the squad with five points on three goals and two assists, and Brasch scored four times.
Jordan Smith added two goals and a helper and
Ben Napieralski notched a goal and an assist.
Orterro Felton and
Alex Gundersen had an assist apiece.
Bryan Thompson won 20-of-30 faceoffs and scooped 11 ground balls.
Gavin Yingling played all 60 minutes in goal and made seven saves.
Neggia finished with a game-high eight points on seven goals and one assist and Matt Brown followed with four goals and one helper for five points. Matt Barry made 15 saves in net.
DelVal will remain on the road for another MAC Freedom game against King's College on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
