Aggie Men's Lax Falls in MAC Freedom Bout At King's

WILKES BARRE (Pa.) -- The Delaware Valley University men's lacrosse team was outscored, 7-3, in the second half as it fell to Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom foe King's College under the lights in Wilkes Barre, Pa. on Wednesday night.

The Aggies fell to 5-7 overall and 0-3 in MAC Freedom games while the Monarchs improved to 3-8 and, 1-2. 

DelVal scored first when Ben Napieralski found Khalil Lindsey camped out on the crease and the junior found the back of the net for his fifth of the year, and a 1-0 lead.

King's scored the next two goals, but Jordan Smith knotted the game at two apiece with his team-leading 23rd goal of the year off a feed from Matt Waibel with 17 ticks left in the first quarter. 

The Monarchs scored the first three goals of the second, including one man-up tally, to take a 5-2 lead. Brian Steiger had a hand in all three goals with two tallies and one assist.

Dylan Brasch got one back for the Aggies just before the half and DelVal went to the break trailing by two, 5-3. DelVal was 8-for-9 on clears in the first half compared to 7-for-11 from King's, and the Aggies held a 17-13 advantage in ground balls, and a 6-4 advantage in face offs through 30 minutes. 

DelVal out-shot the Monarchs, 13-8, in the third quarter but it was King's that outscored the Aggies, 2-0, to double up on its lead and make it an 7-3 game going into the fourth.

There were eight goals scored in the fourth quarter, five by the Monarchs, and three from DelVal. The closest the Aggies got the rest of the way was withing four ,10-6, after goals separated by just 32 seconds from Napieralski and Waibel. Down the stretch, King's scored its third man-down goal of the game and added one more late for the, 12-6, final. 

The Aggies finished the game with a 55-36 advantage in shots, 42-28 edge in ground balls,  and a 17-5 lead in face offs won, but went 0-for-6 on man-up opportunities and allowed three man-down goals. Napieralski and Waibel each had three points and Brasch finished with a goal and an assist. Alex Gundersen added an assist. Bryan Thompson won 17-of-22 face offs and grabbed an impressive 14 ground balls while Gavin Yingling made seven saves in the loss. 

Steiger led all players with four goals and two assists for six points and Ryan Matusiewicz finished with a goal and three assists. Matt Basile made 17 minutes in between the pipes.
