Women's Lacrosse Drops MAC Freedom Opener At FDU-Florham

MADISON (Nj.) – The Delaware Valley University women's lacrosse team led early on in the game, but host FDU-Florham scored eight unanswered goals to run away with the 19-6 home Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom, 19-6.

It was the first game of league play around the MAC Freedom as the Aggies moved to 0-1 and 3-4 overall, while the Devils are 1-0 and 4-5.

Amanda McKeegan opened the scoring with an unassisted tally, her 22nd of the season, just 96 ticks into regulation. FDU's Caroline Pape made it 1-1 less than two minutes later with her first of six goals in the game.

Just 68 seconds after the Devils tied the game, McKeegan found Claire Gamache who beat the keeper to give the Aggies a 2-1 lead with less than five minutes expired in the first half.

FDU scored the next eight goals in the game in a span of 18:20 to go up, 9-2. Pape scored four goals in the stretch and assisted on another.

DelVal potted the next two goals as Gamache netted her second and Sabrina Butler scored her sixth of the season.

Pape picked up another assist on a goal by Hannah Bhend just before the end of the half to give the Devils a 12-4 lead at the break.

FDU outscored the Aggies 9-2 in the second half with a 22-3 advantage in shots to close out the game and earn the 19-6 victory.

Gamache led DelVal with four goals, and five ground balls and added four draw controls. McKeegan finished with a goal and an assist for two points, and a game-high seven draw controls with three caused turnovers and three ground balls. Amanda Dietrich made a season-high 18 saves in the game.

Pape led all scorers with six goals and three assists for nine points and Kathleen Petrucelli scored three times and assisted twice for five points. Caitlyn Damon scored four goals and Megan Nemeth made eight saves in goal to earn the win.
 
DelVal's next game will be in three days at home against DeSales University at 1 p.m. on a day where the Aggies will honor their five seniors with a senior day ceremony before the game.
