GWYNEDD VALLEY (PA) – The Delaware Valley University baseball team surrendered 15 runs in the first three innings as Gwynedd Mercy University ran away with a 19-4 non-conference victory on its home field.
The Aggies dropped to 6-15 overall while the Griffins improved to 8-9-2 with the win.
DelVal opened up a 2-0 lead in the top of the first as
Troy Lachenmayer and
Tom Crooks each came in to score on a two-RBI single to left field by
Cody Brown.
Gwynedd Mercy responded with five runs on just two hits and one error in the bottom of the frame and scored six runs on six hits and another two errors to go up, 11-2, after two. Four batters were walked and another three were hit by a pitch in the two-inning rally.
The Aggies got the rest of their scoring with one run in the third and one more in the fourth. In the third,
Joey Lodato got aboard via an error and came around to score on a wild pitch, and Brown singled to start the fourth inning and later came home on an RBI by
Kevin Johnson.
The Griffins added two runs in the bottom of the fourth and two in the fifth for the 19-4 final. Gwynedd Mercy had 19 hits in the game with seven different players registering two or more led by Ryan Keen's 3-for-3 effort with four runs scored. Billy Collins was 2-for-2 with five RBIs.
For the Griffins, Keen finished the game 3-3 at bat with four runs, two RBI's and one double. Tatoian also registered four runs and went 2-2 at bat with one double. Bryan Kaelin earned the victory on the mound for Gwynedd Mercy, having allowing four runs on five hits with four strikeouts.
Josh Adamski pitched two innings for DelVal and suffered the loss while the Aggies registered eight hits as a team. Brown had half of the team's hits as he went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.
On Friday, April 6, DelVal hosts King's College at 3:30 PM, in its first of three consecutive conference games against the Monarchs.
