Claire Gamache reached a pair of milestones and the Delaware Valley University women's lacrosse team played a complete game to earn a 9-7 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom victory over visiting Manhattanville College
The Aggies improved to 5-6 overall and 2-3 in league play while the Valiants fell to 5-8 and 1-4.
DelVal got the game started with a pair of goals in the opening minute.
Gabby Borst converted a free-position goal 24 seconds in, and
Samantha Collyer won the ensuing draw control and went the length of the field to make it 2-0 just 13 seconds later.
Manhattanville got one back just over four minutes later and the two teams exchanged tallies until
Claire Gamache scored a pair of goals within 1:28 of each other to put the Aggies up, 6-3, with four minutes left in the first half.
Brialee Logue and Lara Keenan each scored for the Valiants to close the half and DelVal took a one goal, 6-5, lead into the break.
The Aggies held an 11-7 lead in shots on goal and controlled 10-of-12 draws, while converting 4-of-5 free-position shots to 1-of-7 by the visitors, through the first 30 minutes.
DelVal got an early tally to start the second half when
Sabrina Butler beat the keeper for the first time in the game to make it 7-5.
Neither team scored over the next 22:53 of game time, but Gamache broke the trend in milestone fashion. She netted two goals in a span of 3:07, her fourth and fifth of the game, and 41
st and 42
nd of her career. In the process, she set a new program record for goals in a season and reached the 100 career-point plateau.
Manhattanville scored twice in the final minute of the game for the 9-7 final.
Amanda Dietrich made 10 saves in the second half as the Aggies were outshot, 12-11, including 7-5 on free-position shots. Gamache added game-highs of six caused turnovers and five ground balls to her five-goal afternoon. Butler and
Amanda McKeegan each recorded a goal and an assist while Borst and Collyer rounded out the scoring with one goal apiece.
Courtney Knight pitched in with three caused turnovers and four ground balls and McKeegan added five draw controls, four ground balls, and two caused turnovers.
Keenan led the Valiants with two goals and one assist to go with four ground balls, two caused turnovers, and one draw control. Hailey Destasio scored twice and grabbed five ground balls. Nicole Demealo, Lexy Deleo, and Brialee Logue each scored once. Bella Marchiselli made 13 saves in between the pipes.
DelVal has one more home regular season game as they welcome in MAC Freedom foe Eastern University next Wednesday at 4 p.m.
