Men's Lax Goes Cold In Conference Loss At Manhattanville

PURCHASE (Ny.) – The Delaware Valley University men's lacrosse team scored the first goal of the game, but failed to score over a 28:55 span of regulation as host Manhattanville College went on a 9-0 run to pull away with a, 10-5, Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom win.

The Aggies fell to 5-9 overall and remain winless in league games while the Valiants improved to 7-6 and 2-3.

Matt Waibel opened the scoring with his 14th of the season just 1:44 into regulation. Manhattanville countered with a man-up goal, but DelVal regained the lead less than a minute later as Khalil Lindsey deposited an unassisted tally to make it 2-1 less than five minutes in.

With 5:36 left in the first quarter, T.J. Caccavo tied the game for the Valiants with his 16th of the year at that began a 9-0 stretch in which Manhattanville held the Aggies off the scoreboard for until the 6:41 mark of the third quarter.

Seven of the next eight Valiant goals were assisted on and one was a man-up tally. DelVal found itself down, 3-2, after one quarter and trailed by six, 8-2, at the half.

Manhattanville scored twice in the first two minutes of the second half before the Aggies scored the final three goals of the game including one in the fourth quarter for the 10-5 final.

Shots on goal in the game were 29-14 in favor of the home team and it held a slim 10-9 margin in face offs won. Four different Valians players recorded four points in the game and Jason Frezza made nine saves in goal.

For DelVal, Gavin Yingling started the first half between the pipes and made seven saves and Nic Brown allowed two goals with 12 saves in the second half. Waibel finished with three goals while Lindsey and Jordan Smith each tallied once. Michael Florig led the defense with five ground balls and one caused turnover. Bryan Thompson won 8-of-9 face offs.

The Aggies have two more regular season games remaining, both at home, beginning with Eastern University next Wednesday at 4 p.m.
