EDWARDSVILLE (PA) – Junior
Samantha Collyer notched a career-highs of eight points, five goals, and three assists, including the game-winning goal, to lead the Delaware Valley University women's lacrosse team to a, 17-11, Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom victory at Wilkes University.
The Aggies improved to 1-3 in the MAC Freedom, and 4-6 overall, while the Colonels dropped to 0-4 in the MAC Freedom and 6-6 overall.
Collyer opened the game with her first two tallies before the game was five minutes old, with a goal by Kyra Boccio for Wilkes sandwiched between the two. Boccio add added her second less than 15 seconds later to tie the score, but
Amanda McKeegan responded for the Aggies with her first of the day to make it 3-2.
Boccio again answered for Wilkes to even things up at three apiece with the game still just 12:40 old.
DelVal broke the tie in big fashion with a 5-0 run that spanned nearly seven minutes. Collyer,
Sabrina Butler,
Angela Holanda,
Courtney Knight, and McKeegan each added a goal during the run. For the senior Knight, it was her first goal and first assist of the season, matching a career-high in each category.
The Lady Colonels added two goals in the final minute of the first half to make it an 8-5 Aggies lead at the half.
Wilkes scored the first two tallies of the second stanza, both by Domenica Lerch in the first 3:17.
DelVal scored eight of the next nine goals in the game over the next 18:14 of play to put the game out of reach. Collyer, McKeegan, and Butler each added two goals during this stretch while
Angela Holanda scored her second of the day and
Gabby Borst notched the first of her career to double up Wilkes, 16-8.
Lerch and Boccio each added one more goal and Camryn Devitt scored her only of the day before
Amanda McKeegan closed out the scoring with her fifth of the day to finish the game with a 17-11 victory.
Collyer matched her career-highs of five goals, three assists and eight points, also against Wilkes-University back in 2017. McKeegan scored a career-high five goals for the third time this season to cross the 100 career points plateau. Butler finished with season-highs of three goals and two assists. In addition to her offensive outburst, Knight caused three turnovers in the game to set a new program record for caused turnovers in a career with 63.
Amanda Dietrich made 15 saves on 26 shots to earn the victory.
On the opposite end, Sarah Carlini stopped 13 shots in the loss. Boccio led the Colonels with four goals and one assist for five points while Lerch had three goals and an assist. Durman (1G-1A) and Burkhardt (2G) each finished with two points.
DelVal's next two games are both home conference showdowns beginning with Manhattanville College this Wednesday, April 17, at 4 p.m.
