Hendricks Walks It Off To Earn A Split For Baseball At Home Against Eastern

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – Luke Hendricks drove in two runs with a walk-double in the night cap to earn the Delaware Valley University baseball team a doubleheader split with visiting Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom rival Eastern University.

The Aggies (9-18, 5-9 MAC Freedom) took the season-series over the Eagles (10-19, 5-9 MAC Freedom) after picking up a win in the nine inning contest at Eastern yesterday.

In the nightcap, the Eagles built a 3-0 lead with one run in each of the first three innings, but DelVal answered with a single run in each the third, fourth, and fifth frames, to tie the game at 3-3 after five.

Eastern got a leadoff double to start the sixth, but the Aggies converted a double play to clear the bases. The next batter, Jordan Laboy tripled, but Cody Brown got a ground ball to first base to end the threat.

In the seventh, Britton Lawrence led off with a triple for the Eagles and Brady DiGiacomo drove him in with a sacrifice fly to give the visitors a 4-3 lead heading to the bottom of the seventh.

Needing two runs to win, Timmy Lallis led off the bottom half of the seventh with a single and Crooks followed with one of his own. The Aggies found themselves down to their final out after a pop-up and a strike out, and Luke Hendricks came to the plate. The senior cashed in with a double to the gap in left center that rolled to the fence and allowed Lallis and Crooks to motor all the way home for the walk-off victory, 5-4.

Lallis and Crooks each had two hits in the opener and Brown allowed 12 hits, four earned runs, and got three strikeouts in the win.

In the opener, it was DelVal that got on the board first thanks to RBI singles from Brown and Lachenmayer.

After Eastern put one on the board in the fourth, Brown picked up his second RBI with a sacrifice fly that scored Ryan Schuetrumpf and made it 3-1 after five innings.

The Eagles got to DelVal in the fifth with three runs on three hits including RBI singles from Matt McHale and Brad Clemens.

The Aggies had just one hit the rest of the way and Eastern took game one, 4-3. DelVal got five hits from five different players in the game and Crooks worked a walk and came around to score. Brown and Lachenmayer picked up the RBIs. Hunter Mease went eight innings on the mound and allowed four earned runs on eight hits with one punch out. Brice Messick finished the final two innings and allowed just one hit and one walk.

Liam Clarke led Eastern with a 3-for-4 effort and a run scored and Clemens finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Mickey Foytik went the distance on the mound and allowed two earned runs while striking out six.
