DOYLESTOWN (PA) – On a windy Tuesday afternoon, the Delaware Valley University baseball team breezed by the visiting Centenary Cyclones with a 6-2 victory in a non-conference game.
The Aggies improved to 10-19 overall while the Cyclones dropped to 12-15.
After a scoreless first inning, the Aggies got on the board in the bottom of the second as
Luke Hendricks hit an RBI single down the left field line to score
Neal Flogel for a 1-0 lead.
DelVal continued to build its lead in the third with two runs on two hits and two errors. With the bases loaded, Flogel hit a two-RBI single to right field to plate
Troy Lachenmayer and
Matt DeLaRosa.
After another scoreless top half of the fourth, DelVal scored two additional runs to make it 5-0. With the bases loaded again,
Zakary Zgura was hit by a pitch for his third consecutive time at-bat, bringing home
Timmy Lallis and one more run came in on a passed ball
The Cyclones got on the board in the top of the fifth after a walk, a passed ball, and a balk put Chase Koffel on third and he advanced home on a sacrifice fly out to right field by Jonathan Pezzato.
The Aggies held on to the 5-1 lead through the next two innings before adding one more insurance run in the bottom of the seventh.
Kevin Johnson advanced home from second base as Hendricks reached on a fielder's choice.
DelVal held Centenary to one run the rest of the way, Casey Brown scored the lone run in the bottom of the ninth on a ground out to second base by Jon Pezzato, for the 6-2 victory.
Senior
Brendan Giampa got his first start of the season on the mound for the Aggies and earned the win with two innings of scoreless balls pitched and two hits allowed. Sophomore
Ryan Georgiadis was the second of five pitchers to play for DelVal and allowed one hit in one inning.
Mike Koslin,
Zach Goodell, and
Joe McGlade each pitched two innings for the Aggies.
Centenary's Manny Miqueo started the game and allowed just one run on one hit and one walk, but suffered the loss.
Lachenmayer led the team with two runs and three hits. Flogel finished with one run and two hits. Lallis, DeLaRosa, and Johnson each finished with one hit.
The Aggies have a quick turnaround as they travel to Wilkes-Barre, PA for the first of a three-game series against MAC Freedom rival Wilkes University tomorrow at 3:30 PM.
