Lachenmayer And Aggies Triumph Over Eastern Eagles In Series Opener

ST. DAVID'S (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University baseball team got out to a 6-0 lead and held on late to earn a, 7-5, road victory in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom series opener at Eastern University on a rainy Friday afternoon.

The Aggies improved to 4-9 in league games (8-17 overall) while the Eagles dropped to 4-8 (9-18 overall).

DelVal stranded four runs through the first two frames, but capitalized in the third as starting pitcher Troy Lachenmayer helped himself with an RBI sacrifice fly that scored Tom Crooks. With two outs in the fourth, Timmy Lallis laced a double to left center to put runners at second and third, and Crooks drove in both runs with a single to center to make it 3-0.

Lachenmayer retired Eastern in order in the bottom of the fourth, and led off the fifth for the Aggies with a single. The next batter, Luke Hendricks, doubled to left, and Josh Adamski followed with a double of his own to plate two runs and make it 5-0. Joey Lodato came up next and drove in Adamski with an RBI single to put DelVal up six.

The Eagles made a push in the bottom of the fifth as they put up four runs on five hits and no errors. The rally was started with a leadoff walk by Jared Laboy, followed by a double and an RBI single. Lachenmayer and the Aggie defense later ended the threat with a 5-4-3 ground ball double play to keep DelVal on top, 6-4, after five.

The Aggies got one back in the seventh on an RBI single to right field by Cody Brown that scored Ryan Schuetrumpf who was aboard with a leadoff single.

Lachenmayer surrendered one run in the seventh that made it a 7-5 game, and James Eldridge pitched the final two games and allowed just two base runners on a pair of walks, but did not allow a run as he earned the save and preserved the MAC Freedom victory.

Lachenmayer pitched seven innings and allowed nine hits, five earned runs, and three walks, with three strikeouts to earn his second win of the year. At the dish, he was 1-for-2 with two walks, an RBI, and a run scored. Adamski went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored, and Crooks finished 2-for-6 with a pair of runs driven in. Lodato also had a multi-hit game including a walk, an RBI, and a run scored.

Tyler Bennett suffered the loss after 4.2 innings of work and six runs allowed (five earned) on nine hits, two walks, and four punch outs. Three different players recorded multiple hits and Brady DiGiacomo drove in two runs and scored one.

The two teams are scheduled for a doubleheader showdown in Doylestown tomorrow at 1 p.m.
