Gophers Pull Away From Aggies In Second Half

BALTIMORE (Md.) – Goucher College scored six unanswered goals in the latter portion of Saturday afternoon's contest to pull away from visiting Delaware Valley University and earn a 13-8 non-conference victory.

The Gophers improved to 2-3 overall while the Aggies fell to 1-4.

The two teams traded goals through the first period and went into the second deadlocked at 2-2.

3:45 into the second frame freshman Ben Napieralski got on the board to put DelVal ahead and just over two minutes later he set up Khalil Lindsey to make it a 4-2 game with 9:09 left in the half.

Goucher scored the final four goals of the first half to take a 6-4 lead into the locker room. The run got started with a man-up tally from Andrew Sade and Zephan Harnish scored a natural hat trick to cap it off.

The Aggies wasted no time in the second half as they quickly tied the game after just 2:17 of play. First, Jordan Smith setup Matt Waibel and then Smith found the back of the cage himself to knot the score again at 6-6.

From there, the Gophers scored six unanswered goals to pull ahead to a 12-6 lead with 11:12 left in regulation. Mason Gorman and Grant Lasorda had two goals apiece during that stretch to ultimately close out the 13-8 victory.

Smith finished with three goals and three assists for a career-high six points for the Aggies. He now has at least one goal and two points in each game this season. Dylan Brasch, Brandon Keller, Lindsey, Napieralski, and Waibel each notched one goal and Napieralski added a pair of helpers. Bryan Thompson was an impressive 14-for-20 in the face off department and grabbed five ground balls. Nic Brown got the start in net and gave up 12 goals on 21 shots and Gavin Yingling played the final 11:12 surrendering just one goal on four shots.

Harnish led all players with six goals and one assist and Woodson recorded four points on one goal and three helpers. Mick Togo recorded game-highs of 10 ground balls and five caused turnovers and Justin Lugo made 15 saves on 23 shots.
