ARLINGTON (Va.) – The Delaware Valley University men's lacrosse team needed every one of its season-high 13 goals to get past host Marymount University, 13-12, during its Wednesday spring break matinee in Arlington, Virginia.
The Aggies improved to 2-4 overall while the Saints fell to 1-5.
DelVal got out to an early 3-0 lead after five minutes of play thanks to unassisted tallies from 
Jordan Smith, 
Alex Gundersen, and 
Ben Napieralski.
Marymount countered with six unanswered goals with five in the first and one more in the second to go up, 6-3. Four of the six goals were assisted and Clark Akers and Hunter Ralston score twice each.
The remainder of the second belonged to the Aggies as they went on a 5-0 run to take an 8-6 advantage into the halftime break.
The team's traded goals to start the second, but Ralston found the back of the net two more times for the Saints to tie the game at 9-9 with 8:28 left in the third.
Brandon Keller scored two goals in the final five minutes of the third, including one on a man-up opportunity, to put DelVal back on top, 11-9, going into the fourth.
3:07 into the fourth stanza, Marymount capitalized on a man-up situation of its own to pull within one, 11-10, but Smith got the goal right back for the Aggies just a minute later.
The Saints cut their deficit to one once again as Matthew Ebert made it 12-11 with just under four minutes to play in regulation.
Just 80 seconds later, Gunderson struck again for DelVal for what proved to be the game-winning tally as Marymount managed to score once more down the stretch, but the Aggies held on for the 13-11 victory.
Smith continued to stay hot for DelVal as he led the team with four goals and one assist for five points. Gunderson and Keller each notched three tallies, Napieralski netted two, and 
Khalil Lindsey picked up one to round out the scoring. 
Bryan Thompson was 10-for-27 on face-offs with four ground balls and 
Michael Florig forced four caused turnovers. 
Gavin Yingling played all 60 minutes in goal and made 10 saves to earn his first win of the year.
Ebert led all players in the game with seven points on five goals and two assists while Ralston managed five points (4G/1A) and Akers pitched in with four points (2G/2A). Grey Clarkson made 13 saves in goal and suffered the loss.
The Aggies will be back in action in exactly one week when they host Albright College at 4 p.m.
