Aggies Drop Home Contest To Mighty Macs

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – Immaculata University scored five unanswered goals in the second half to pull away from host Delaware Valley University women's lacrosse and take an 11-8 non-conference victory.

The Aggies fell to 2-2 overall while the Mighty Macs earned their first win of 2019 to improve to 1-2.

Immaculata got on the board just 41 seconds into the game and got out to a 4-0 lead after 15:13 of play. Kayla Cadden got the scoring started and Bailey Krewson capped the run with two tallies.

DelVal got on the board with 14:13 left in the first half as Sabrina Butler setup Natalie VanOrden for her first career goal. Less than two minutes later, Gabby Borst found the back of the net for her third of the season to make it 3-2.

The two teams traded goals to close out the first stanza and the Mighty Macs held a 6-3 lead at the break. They held a 14-6 edge in shots on goal and earned seven free position shots to the Aggies three. However, DelVal won the draw control battle, 7-3.

The Aggie offense came out hot to start the second half, despite the below freezing temperatures. They scored three goals in a span of 6:12 to tie the game at 6-6. Claire Gamache scored two and Amanda McKeegan added the other.

That is when Immaculata responded with a 5-0 run that stretched 10 minutes of game play and put the visitors on top, 11-6, with under five minutes left in regulation. Krewson scored the first three goals to spark the run and Kennedy tacked on two. Cadden assisted on three of the goals.

Gamache tacked on two man-up goals late in the game for the 11-8 final. The sophomore finished with four goals, four ground balls, two caused turnovers and eight draw controls. McKeegan finished with two tallies and two ground balls while Borst and VanOrden rounded out the scoring. Butler and Shannon Petrillo each picked up an assist.

Senior team captain Courtney Knight recorded four ground balls in the game and needs just two more to set the program's all-time career record currently held by Janee' Rhone (118). Fellow team captain Amanda Dietrich made 11 saves on 22 shots faced. The Aggies won the draw control battle, 13-8.

Krewson finished with six goals, Cadden had one goal and four assists for five points, and Kennedy scored four times to lead Immaculata. The Mighty Macs assisted on eight of their 11 goals in the game. Anna
DiDonato led the defense with five ground balls, two caused turnovers, and four draw controls. Emily Schumann made eight saves in goal.

The Aggies will head to Centenary University to take on the Cyclones at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19.
