DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University men's lacrosse team competed early on, but visiting Swarthmore College pulled away with a 12-4 non-conference triumph.
The Garnet scored three unanswered goals, with Will Vespole assisting on two of the three goals, in just over the first 10 minutes of play.
P.J. Rafferty got the Aggies on the board late in the first quarter and picked up where he left off early in the second frame with his third and fourth goals of the season to pull within one goal of Swarthmore, 3-2.
The Garnet scored five of the next six goals, senior
Jordan Smith grabbed the Aggies lone goal, to increase their lead to 8-3 at halftime. Dylan Rittenhouse scored two goals in the second quarter and led Swarthmore with three in the first half.
Jake Ross scored his third of the game and Will Vespole scored the only other goal in the third quarter for Swarthmore and DelVal went into the final frame down, 10-3.
Zander Levitz and Ryan Mulvey added to the Garnet's lead before
Matt Waibel scored the final goal of the game for the 12-4 conclusion.
Rafferty, 2-0-2, and Smith, 1-1-2, each finished the game with a team-high two points.
Jerad Wilson led the way on the backend for the Aggies with 10 ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Nic Brown made 17 saves in the loss while Swarthmore's Frankie Dillon stopped eight to earn the win.
Sophomore Alec Ferry scored his first career goal for the Garnet.
The Aggies will return to action at 1 p.m. this Saturday as they travel to Goucher College to face-off against the Gophers.
