DOVER (De.) -- The Delaware Valley University men's lacrosse team scored five unanswered goals in the first quarter and never looked back on its way to a 9-2 road triumph at Wesley College on Wednesday afternoon.
It was the fourth consecutive win for the Aggies, the longest such streak in program history, and catapulted the squad to 5-4 overall as it prepares for its slate of seven straight Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom games beginning at home next Wednesday against FDU-Florham at 4 p.m. The Wolverines fell to 1-6 overall.
DelVal needed just 63 seconds to get on the board as freshman
Ben Napieralski continued his hot play with his 12th goal of the season off an assist from
Jordan Smith. Less than three minutes later,
Brandon Keller potted his first of the day and then assisted on two tallies later in the stanza that put the Aggies on top 4-0.
Matt Waibel made it 5-0 with 1:27 left in the first stanza and the defense held Wesley to just three shots, one on goal, through the first 15 minutes to maintain the five goal advantage into the second.
Neither team cracked the score sheet in the second until the final minute when Napieralski netted his second of the game to make it 6-0 at the half. DelVal held a 10-3 lead in shots on goal at the break.
Wesley got the first goal of the third 4:36 in as Adam Tewey scored an unassisted tally. Just over three minutes later, the Aggies got the goal right back when
Dylan Brasch set up
Matt Waibel to make it 7-1. Brasch scored two man-up goals separated by just 13 seconds in the fourth quarter, and the Wolverines scored once in the waning seconds of regulation for the 9-2 final.
Keller finished with a game-high four points on one goal and three assists while Brasch and Napieralski each scored two goals with one helper for three points.
Khalil Lindsey potted his fourth goal of the year and
Alex Gundersen scored his 11th. Keller was one of four Aggies to grab five ground balls in the game and he and
Matt Waibel each caused four turnovers. Waibel pitched in offensively with a pair of tallies as well.
Gavin Yingling earned his fourth win in goal with eight saves in 60 minutes.
Wesley got a goal apiece from Adam Tewey and Kyle Mackall-Lloyd and Derek Hallock grabbed a game-high seven ground balls. Dylan Sicca made nine saves in the loss.
