DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University women's lacrosse team scored early and often against visiting Penn State Abington in a 17-5 home non-conference triumph.
The Aggies got back to .500 at 3-3 on the year while the Lions fell to 1-5.
DelVal scored five goals to start the opening half and another five to close the half and take a 12-3 lead at the break. Sophomore
Claire Gamache notched seven points in the stanza on three goals and four assist and junior
Amanda McKeegan found the back of the net four times. Fellow junior
Samantha Collyer was hot as well with two goals and two assists for four points in the first 30 minutes.
After the Aggies scored five goals in the first 16 minutes, Penn State got the next two, both from Alynn Phelan and separated by just 11 seconds. DelVal scored the next two in a matter of 13 seconds before Kiera O'Keefe scored the third Lions goal unassisted.
The Aggies continued to pour it on in the second with another 5-0 run that spanned 23:19 of play. McKeegan started the stanza with her fifth goal of the game and Butler capped it with the final two tallies.
Penn State added two late goals for the 17-5 finish.
McKeegan's five goals matched a career and season-high and Gamache led all players with seven points. Collyer finished with four points while Butler,
Jaden Keefer, and
Natalie VanOrden each recorded two goals and one helper for three points.
Erin McCarthy pitched in with a tally and
Amanda Dietrich made four saves and earned the win in 43:25 of play.
Shannon Hood relieved Dietrich for the final 16:35.
The Lions got three goals from Phelan and Lillian Diesh and Kiera O'Keefe each recorded a goal and an assist. Cheyenne Grum went the distance between the pipes and made 24 saves.
The Aggies will begin Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play on Wednesday on the road at FDU-Florham at 4 p.m.
