Aggies Swept By Bulldogs In MAC Freedom Series

CENTER VALLEY (Pa.) -- The Delaware Valley University baseball team surrendered eight unanswered runs and left seven runners stranded as host DeSales University completed the Middle Atlantic Conference sweep with a 9-2 victory in the series finale on Monday afternoon. 

The Bulldogs improved to 7-8 overall and 4-2 in league play while the Aggies dropped to 5-11 and 2-4. 

DeSales got to DelVal for four runs on seven hits through the first three innings. The Bulldogs extended their lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run homer run from Sergio Diaz. 

The Aggies got on the board in the sixth when Joey Lodato led off with a double down the left field line and Timmy Lallis moved him to third with a single. The next batter, Tom Crooks, drove in Lodato with a fielder's choice.  DelVal scored one more time in the eighth when Ryan Schuetrumpf singled through the left side to drive in Lallis who was aboard with his second hit of the afternoon. 

Troy Lachenmayer started the game on the mound for the Aggies and went five innings allowing 11 hits and eight runs (five earned) with three walks and three strikeouts. The Aggies committed three errors in the field leading to three unanswered runs. They did rack up nine hits offensively with Lallis, Lodato, Cody Brown, and Josh Adamski each recording a pair. Brice Messick finished the game on the mound with three innings pitched, two hits, and one run allowed.

Evan Plummer led the Bulldogs with a 4-for-4 effort at the plate with two RBIs and Michael White was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Felix Martinez earned his first win of the season with eight innings pitched, nine hits allowed, one earned run surrendered and four punch outs. 

DelVal is scheduled to host The City College of New York tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.
