LA PLUME (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University women's lacrosse team traveled to La Plume, Pennsylvania to take on Keystone College late Saturday afternoon and came home with a 10-7 non-conference triumph.
The Aggies improved to 2-1 overall while the Giants fell to 1-1.
Sophomore
Claire Gamache, coming off one of the best games of her career despite the loss to Gwynedd Mercy last game, got DelVal on the board first with an unassisted tally 3:18 into the contest.
Keystone senior Alex Smith scored the next two goals of the game separated by 2:14 to give the Giants their first and last lead of the evening, 2-1.
Just over a minute later, Gamache tied the game for the Aggies, and off the ensuing draw, after
Sabrina Butler gained the draw control, Gamache quickly found
Jaden Keefer who put the visitors on top for good, 3-2. The two tallies were separated by just 12 seconds.
Amanda McKeegan scored twice before the end of the first half and DelVal maintained a one goal, 5-4 lead, going into the second.
The Aggies scored the first three goals out of the break to double up on Keystone, 8-4, with 25:40 left in regulation.
Gamache and McKeegan combined five unassisted goals for DelVal in the second half and senior keeper
Amanda Dietrich stopped six of nine shots on goal to seal the 10-7 victory.
Dietrich finished with 11 saves in the win and the Aggies held a 24-18 edge in shots on goal for the game. DelVal controlled 11 of 19 draws and also won 11 of 19 ground balls, but they did lose the turnover battle, 27-19. Gamache finished with five goals and one assist for six points to go with five ground balls and two caused turnovers, and McKeegan followed with four tallies. Butler finished with two ground balls and two caused turnovers and
Amanda Stefan caused three turnovers. Keefer added one goal and one caused turnover.
For Keystone, Kayla Bain scored three goals and earned seven draw controls and Smith followed with a pair of tallies, two ground balls, and two draw controls. Savanna Robinson caused four turnovers and grabbed two ground balls. Daphne Leenas finished with 14 saves on 24 shots.
DelVal will return home for its next game on Wednesday, March 6 against Immaculata at 4 p.m.
