Zgura's Walk Off Caps Aggies' Epic Comeback From 11-0 Down

(FORT PIERCE) Fl. – In the final game of its spring break trip, the Delaware Valley University baseball team overcame an 11-0 deficit and Zackary Zgura hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth to lift the

Aggies to a 13-12 victory over North Park University.

The Aggies (3-6 overall) finish the trip to Fort Pierce, Florida with a 3-5 record and wins in two of their last three.

The Vikings (5-5) came out strong and plated 11 runs through the first four innings with nine hits before the Aggies could get on the board.

However, following three scoreless innings for DelVal, Josh Adamski hit an RBI single to center field and Cody Brown started the comeback as he advanced home.

In the fifth inning, the Aggies exploded for six runs on six hits highlight by a bases clearing double to deep center field that plated Brown, Neal Flogel, and Ryan Schuetrumpf. Earlier in the frame, Brown knocked in two runs of his own with a bases loaded single and DelVal went into the sixth down just 11-7.

It pulled to within two in the next frame thanks to a pair of RBIs from Zgura and Adamski.

Ryan Denz got one back for the Vikings in the seventh with a fly ball out to left field for the RBI single to score Brad Maurer, but it was all Aggies for the remainder of the game.

After a scoreless eighth for both teams, DelVal headed into the final inning at the top of the batting order, trailing by three, 12-9.

DeLaRosa got aboard on an error and Tom Crooks moved him over to second base with one out. The next batter was Luke Hendricks and he laced a double that brought in DeLaRosa to make it a 12-10 game. After a strikeout left the Aggies down to their final out, Hendricks stole third base and came in to score on an error.

Brown worked a walk in the next at-bat, Flogel sacrificed his body to reach on a hit-by-pitch, and Adamski brought in the tying run with a single to left center.

With Flogel on second and Adamski on first and two outs, the stage was set for Zgura to be the hero. The junior seized the moment with a single into left center field and Flogel powered around third to score the game-winning run and send the dugout into a frenzy with a 13-12 triumph.

Evan Thorpe recorded his first win having allowed just one run and five hits with two strikeouts in 4.2 innings pitched. Ethan Sund was given the loss for North Park after 3.1 innings pitched, three hits allowed, three unearned runs surrendered, and seven punchouts.

Zgura finished 4-for-5 at the dish with five RBIs, and a run scored and Brown scored four times, drove in two, and got two baseknocks. DeLaRosa, Hendricks, Schuetrumpf, and Flogel all had two runs scored.

Jared Cantu, Cullen Gilbertson, and Michael Freeze each scored three runs for the Vikings. Six other players also scored a single run. Jake Reinhardt and Kyle Balash had three hits each in five at bats, eight other players also recorded a hit.
