Aggies Drop Twinbill To Norwich Cadets

FORT PIERCE (Fl.) -- The Delaware Valley University baseball team, playing in its second double header of Spring Training in sunny Fort Pierce, FL, dropped a pair of games to Norwich University on Sunday.

The Cadets (2-2) swept the Aggies (1-4) with a 7-6 win in game one and a 10-7 victory in game two.

In the first inning of game one, senior Luke Hendricks hit his first home run of the season, a three-run shot into left field, to drive in Tom Crooks and Timmy Lallis home for a 3-1 lead after one.

Josh Adamski stole home in the second inning and scored again in the fourth after Matt Huber hit a sacrifice fly out to left field to increase DelVal's lead to 5-1 after four.

Both teams scored one run a piece due to errors in the fifth inning, and the Aggies went into the top of the sixth clinging onto a four run lead.

The Cadets then plated six runs, including three unearned runs, in the sixth inning to take a 7-6 lead. Norwich worked three walks and DelVal committed one error in the inning.

Norwich's closer Chris Hender ended the game with three strikeouts in the final inning to secure the victory for Norwich and earn the win.

On the mound for DelVal, senior Joe McGlade took the loss to fall to 0-2 on the season. He allowed seven runs, four earned, and allowed five hits in 5.1 innings. He walked four batters and struck out three. Senior James Eldridge pitched the remainder of the game and allowed no hits while walking two.

In game two, Norwich built a 4-0 lead after four innings. Kevin Lynch scored the first run of the game in the opening inning, was walked in the second bringing Connor McGee home, and hit a fly ball out to center field bringing McGee home again in the fourth.

Joey Lodato got the aggies on the board in the fifth inning after an error by the Cadets first baseman on a hit by Zach Goodell. Goodell came around to score as the Cadets walked Ryan Schuetrumpf with the bases loaded. Hendricks came up big again for the Aggies with a two-run single later in the frame to tie the game at 4-4.

The Cadets regained the lead in the bottom of the frame thanks to an RBI single by Jacob Parizo.

The Aggies responded with three runs in the sixth to jump back on top, 7-5. Tom Crooks drove in two with a single and Schuetrumpf brought Crooks in with an RBI single of his own.

Norwich answered with a five-run bottom of the sixth. Brendon Prof had the big knock with a double that scored Brady Dohert and Kevin Lynch.

In the final inning of the day Cody Brown was thrown out at second base on a fielder's choice and Lodato flied out to center field. C.J. Davis Struck out Moran to finish the game and conclude the sweep for the Cadets.

Crooks and Lodato each recorded two hits in the game and sophomore Ryan Georgiadis fell to 0-1 on the year after allowing five runs, four earned, on four hits in 1.1 innings of work. Sophomore Josh Adamski pitched the first 4.2 innings and also allowed five runs, four earned runs, on five hits.

DelVal is next in action on Tuesday, March 12, as it takes on the College of Mount Saint Vincent at 10 a.m.
