Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Gamache And McKeegan Combine For 15 Points, But Gwynedd Mercy Holds On For 19-16 Win

GWYNEDD VALLEY (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University women's lacrosse team got career performances from Claire Gamache and Amanda McKeegan, and made a surge late in the game, but it was not enough to overcome host Gwynedd Mercy who held on for the 19-16 victory.

After dropping into an early 2-0 hole, Gamache responded with two unassisted goals of her own to knot the score.

Gwynedd Mercy fired back with three goals in less than three minutes as Victoria Mollitor netted two to complete her hat trick and Victoria Braeunle added her second of the game.

The Aggies got two back as Gamache potted her third of the game and then set up Erin McCarthy to make it 5-4.

The Griffins went on another 3-0 spurt to double up DelVal, 8-4, with 11:19 left in the first.

The rest of the half belonged to the Aggies as they scored five unanswered goals to take a 9-8 lead into halftime. Gamache scored four goals and had two helpers in the first frame.

Gwynedd Mercy came out in the second half and outscored DelVal, 7-2, through 26 minutes to open up a 19-12 lead. Braeunle tacked on another two goals and two assists in that span.

The Aggies made a late push with four goals in the final 1:45, including three tallies and one helper from Amanda McKeegan, but it was not enough as the Griffins held on for the 19-16 non-conference victory.

Gamache led the way for the Aggies with career-highs of six goals and three assists for nine points to go along with eight draw controls, four caused turnovers, and three ground balls. McKeegan also recorded a career-best in goals with five of her own and added one assist. McCarthy added two tallies while Gabby Borst, Sabrina Butler and Jaden Keefer each scored one apiece to round out the goals for DelVal. Courtney Knight added three ground balls, two caused turnovers and two draw controls.

The Griffins were led by a strong performance up front from Braeunle who matched Gamache with nine points of her own on seven goals and two assists and Mollitor finished with six goals and one helper for seven points. Samantha Brown added three goals and one assist for four points. She and Braeunle also picked up 10 draw controls apiece.

Goalkeeper Amanda Dietrich was credited with nine stops for DelVal, while Gwynedd Mercy's Julia Smith recorded eight saves in net.

The Aggies will look to bounce back when they travel to Keystone College this Saturday to face off against the Giants at 4 PM.
