DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) --
Damian Washington and
Jordan Tucker combined for 50 points and 21 boards to lead the Delaware Valley University men's basketball team to a 90-84 non-conference victory over visiting Immaculata University.
The Aggies got back to .500 overall at 3-3 while the Mighty Macs remain winless at 0-4.
The two teams traded baskets over the first five minutes of regulation and the game was knotted at 10-10. The junior Washington scored the next six points of the game with a tough driving layup, a pair of free throws, and a patented breakaway dunk off a steal to put DelVal up by six.
Immaculata responded with the next five points including a three-ball from Brandon McCullough, but Washington answered with an and-1 layup at the other end to make it a 19-15 Aggies lead. DelVal led by as many as seven, 25-18, before the Mighty Macs ripped off eight straight points capped by an Asa Kitchen 3-pointer to regain the lead, 26-25.
Washington fired back again with another corner trey and
Mike Cianciulli converted an and-1 to put the Aggies back on top, 31-26, with 5:41 to play in the first half.
Washington finished the half with 23 points, seven rebounds, and three blocked shots and DelVal forced nine turnovers as it held a 17-point, 48-31, lead at the break. The Aggies shot an efficient 52.9-percent from the field and hit 10-of-11 free throws while
holding the Mighty Macs to 37.5% shooting from the field despite a 5-for-12 effort from deep.
DelVal opened the second half with a 6-2 run to extend its lead to 54-33 in the early minutes. From there, Immaculata went on a 9-2 run, but
Edward Jones put an end to the spurt with an and-1 play to make it a 60-42 lead with 15 minutes left in regulation.
The Aggies regained a 20-point lead after a Cianciulli three made it 67-47 with 12:14 on the clock, but the Mighty Macs were not going away easy. They went on a 23-8 run over the next eight minutes to get back in the game at 75-70 with 4:15 left in regulation.
The veteran Cianciulli helped seal the win with 10 points over the final five minutes of regulation and DelVal held on for the 90-84 victory.
Washington led all players in the game with 28 points, 11 rebounds, and four blocked shots and Tucker followed with 22 points and 10 rebounds to go with four assists. Cianciulli added 17 points and four assists.
Edward Jones also reached double figures with 10 points and had four assists and three steals. The Aggies shot 33-for-60 (55%) from the field, but went just 3-for-10 from deep.
Immaculata placed four players in double figures with 19 points apiece from Jordan Ambrose and Asa Kitchen. McCullough and Tyler Tillery followed with 17 and 14 points, respectively, with Tillery swatting five shots on the defensive end.
