YORK (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University men's basketball team fell behind early and were never able to climb back into the game as host York College pulled away to a 94-71 non-conference victory on Saturday.
The Aggies are 3-4 overall after the setback while the Spartans improved to 7-2. For what it's worth, DelVal's opponents in its four losses have a combined record of 29-5 this year.
After the Aggies got the first bucket of the game, York used a 13-3 run to get out to an eight-point lead in the early going. DelVal pulled to within three after a fastbreak layup by
Devin Hill made it 17-14, but the Spartans ripped off another run of 13-5 to take their largest lead of the stanza, 30-19, with 8:36 left in the half.
The lead ballooned to 12 before the Aggies went on a 10-0 run that spanned four minutes and pulled them within two, 36-34, with two minutes left before the break.
Jordan Tucker highlighted the spurt with five points and Hill capped it with a trey.
York closed the half with the final six points to take a 42-34 lead into the break. Both teams shot over 40-percent from the field in the first half and DelVal made four treys to the Spartans two. York got to the line 16 times and made 12 free throws while the Aggies were just 4-for-6 in the first half.
The Spartans maintained the double-digit lead through the entirety of the second half and just after the hallway point they used a 13-3 run to go up by 23, 78-55. They maintained control the rest of the way and closed out the 94-71 victory.
York finished the game shooting 47.7% (31-for-65) from the field, but hit just 6-of-27 three's and 36-of-38 from the charity stripe. DelVal was 25-for-59 (42.4%) from the field and 6-for-19 from deep with a 15-for-22 effort from the line.
Tucker led the squad with his second straight double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds to go with six assists and three blocks. Hill also dropped 15 points with four boards while
Mike Cianciulli and
Damian Washington each notched 11 with seven and five rebounds, respectively.
York's bench outscored the Aggies', 32-17, and four players finished in double-figure scoring. Jared Wagner led the way with 20 points and added eight assists and seven rebounds with two steals. David Giuliani paced the team with nine boards and added 16 points. Off the bench, Logan Collins had 11 points.
DelVal will have 10 days off before it welcomes in Centenary University on December 17 at 7 p.m.
