Volleyball Drops Home MAC Freedom Bout To Wilkes

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) -- The Delaware Valley University volleyball team hosted Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom foe Wilkes University Wednesday night, but fell in straight sets, 3-0. Set scores were 25-11, 25-14, and 25-19. 

The Aggies fell to 3-10 overall and 0-2 in league play while the Colonels improved to 9-7 and 2-1. 

DelVal held an early 4-3 lead in the first set, but surrendered five straight points to fall into an 8-4 deficit. Wilkes never looked back the rest of the way and ran away with the first set, 25-10. The Aggies managed just three kills while the Colonels had 15 and just one error. 

In the second set, DelVal led 10-8 after a pair of kills from Krista Hiller, but Wilkes scored 12 of the next 15 points to jump ahead, 18-12.The Aggies got a kill from Reilly Green to make it a five-point game, but the Colonels responded with seven of the final eight points to claim the second set, 25-14. 

Karlye Huffman started the serving for Wilkes in the third set and ripped off five straight points for the early 5-0 lead. Later in the set, the Aggies pulled with three, 15-12, after five straight points including a kill by Tara Moffa and an ace from Hiller. Wilkes made it 21-14, but DelVal fought back with a 3-0 run to pull with four, 21-17. The Colonels put the math away with a 4-2 run to close the match with a 25-19 win. 

Green finished with an impressive five blocks, including one solo, and she added four kills. Hiller had a team-high seven kills to go with an ace and five digs. Caitlin Nemil led the team with 12 digs and 16 assists to go with an ace and a kill. 

Jamie Mikovich led all players in the match with 17 kills and six aces to go with two blocks and 14 digs. 

The Aggies will be back in action on Saturday as they take on Lancaster Bible College and Penn State Abington in a tri-match beginining at 2 p.m.
